Photography shoot – The Lonely Knight

It’s not every day you see St.George taking a stroll along the beach on the South Coast of England. With occasional passer-by comments such as “Where’s the dragon?” and “You’ll rust up on the beach mate“, the Lonely Knight (aka Colin Bickers) responds with random comments such as “What year is this?” and “Where can a weary soldier find a pint of English ale in this place?“.

Click here to view a selection of photographs from todays shoot.

The photo shoot is to promote the Lonely Knight’s upcoming charity walk which will see him carry a rose from Worthing’s Rose and Crown pub to London, arriving in time to cast the rose before the royal wedding carriage on the 29th April.

Visit his website here to keep up to date with his challenge.

He estimates it will take him 5 days and leaves Worthing on St.George’s Day. To add to the bravery of this gallant knight he will not be carrying and food, instead relying on the generosity of random establishments he may fall upon on his journey.

All charity proceeds will go to Chestnut Tree House, Sussex’s only children’s hospice which cares for life-limited children and young adults aged 0-19 and also provides support for their families.

Please donate to this worthy cause on the The Lonely Knight’s JustGiving page here.

New Year, New Developments!

New Year 2011After a really successful year, Webination is continuing work for a number of current clients in 2011 as well as adding some new ones too.

We’re also looking to the future and will be concentrating our research & learning time on several aspects of web development. We expect these areas to skyrocket this year and we want to be in on the action!

Here is a list of stuff we want to learn and use over the coming year…

  1. More ModX & Magento work. Open source will see huge growth – expect huge advances in open source cms & ecommerce apps.
  2. Touchy-feely apps! More responsive web apps. We will do more cross-platform development. In particular we plan to get involved in some iOS (iPhone & iPad) projects as well as Facebook API.
  3. We’re going to try out Ruby. The tools and open source community is growing at a stupendous pace now! Definitely one to watch in 2011.

Happy New Year everyone!

Time Person of the Year 2010

Facebook - Mark ZuckerbergI was half expecting it to be Julian Assange… but no, Time have gone for the easy choice: Mark Zuckerberg.

Some crazy stats about Facebook include the fact that one out of every dozen people on the planet has a Facebook account, they collectively use 700 billion minutes up on Facebook every month, the site accounted for 1 out of 4 page views in the US last month and membership is still growing at a rate of about 700,000 people a day! Some of those statistics just don’t seem possible!

A full feature on Mark Zuckerberg, Time Person of the Year 2010 can be viewed here  http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/0,28757,2036683,00.html

First impressions of RockMelt web browser

RockMeltWe’ve just tried out RockMelt on OSX and are very impressed with the page load time. The social networking integration seems to work very well and pretty much removes the need of having a facebook tab, a twitter tab and any other news feed tabs. Google Search works nicely too.

We might even be totally converted from Safari & Firefox if RockMelt provide a ‘FireBug’ style add-on for debugging. Until then we’ll probably stick with Firefox though.

You can register for an early beta and download RockMelt at http://www.rockmelt.com/
